Admission

  • A student seeking admission to the hostel shall submit her application to the Principal/Warden countersigned by her parent or guardian. The Management/Principal reserve the right to refuse admission to a student into the college hostel.

  • Current students studying at Cauvery College for Women alone are eligible to be admitted in to the Hostel. Admissions to the Hostel will be made every year. However, senior students who have resided previously in the hostel, will be given preference.

  • Application forms can be received from the College Hostel Office. 

  • No member shall be allowed to withdraw from the hostel before the end of the year except with approval of the Warden/Management.

  • After scrutiny and sanction for admission, the students have to pay the Hostel deposit and fees prescribed by the Management before admission.

  • The second Sunday of every month will be the visitor’s day. Visiting the ward is not allowed on other days.

  • Allotment of room shall be made by the Warden at the beginning of each year and members shall not change their rooms.

  • Warden, may re-allot the rooms at any time without assigning reasons.

  • Boarding charges of previous month shall be paid without fine till 15th of succeeding month. Thereafter a fine of Rs.5/- will be levied for each day of default. In any case if a member fails to pay the dues of a month by 25th of the next month, she will cease to be a member of the hostel henceforth. However, such defaulters may be readmitted at the discretion of the Warden and the Management. Hostel deposit will be adjusted for mess fees during the last two months of their stay during the academic year.

  • Leave of absence from the hostel should be obtained invariably from the warden through the House Keepers concerned. No reduction will be made in mess charges for absence of 5 days and less. If the member is absent for more than 5 days consecutively in the same month a reduction will be made for each day in excess. The application for such leave is to be given to the warden before 25th of every month through the House Keeper. Students who are sick should stay only in the room provided for this purpose.

  • If a student is be absent continuously for more than 15 days in any of the particular month with the permission of the Warden, her boarding charges will be calculated for the actual number of days she has dined in the hostel, during the month. Benefit of this rule cannot be claimed by members whose continuous absence extends from that month to the succeeding month

Entertainment

  • Recreation is an inevitable part and parcel of students’ pastime. Hence in each dining hall there is a 29 inches colour television with limited channels of connection and audio system in each block which has speakers in each floor.

  • Music, announcements and other communications are made through these speakers. Further a movie of students’ choice is screened once a month. There are three colour television sets exclusively for hostel staff members.

  • WELCOME DINNER, NEW YEAR DINNER & HOSTEL DAY CELEBRATION are conducted every year in a grand manner.

  • Extra classes like Tailoring, Hindi and Yoga are conducted for the students after the college hours.

  • A set of reputed National and local publications both in English and Tamil are circulated to the students in each block and in each floor. Employment news is the latest addition to the list of publications.

  • Besides there is a move to make provisions for a library and gymnastics club in the ground floor. In the first floor there is a shuttle cork court, table tennis and recreations like chess, carom, etc.

Health care

         Dr. Shanthi and Dr.Lakshmi Praba alternatively visit the hostel for the purpose of medication to the sick students. They are provided with a separate room. Emergency cases are taken by a separately arranged escorts to nearby hospitals. Arrangements are made for buying the medicines daily. Keeping in mind the health factor of the students, it is ensured that students are provided with the healthy drinks like fruit juice every week. In general and the sports students in particular are provided with porridge and boiled cereals. In short their health is well looked after.

Hostel

          The hostel is housed in three buildings and named as ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘P.G’ Blocks comprising 245 rooms out of which 219 are marked for students. The rooms are adequately furnished and are provided with mosquito netting and fans. Apart from these, each floor has a water purifier in all the buildings. Presently there are 1207 college students including school students who are studying in Cauvery Matriculation School which is a sister institution of our college.
Faculty members staying in the hostel are provided with attached bathrooms and a separate dining room. Adjoining the P.G hostel a building has been constructed to make provision for a separate room for the hostel secretary and hostel office.
         Telephone and intercom facilities have been provided for all the blocks. Telephone card system is an added dimension to the otherwise well equipped hostel system. For this, separate telephone connections and telephones have been installed in each block.
Sodium vapour lamps illuminate the entire campus from 6 p.m to 6 a.m. A new high mast lamp is inserted or fitted in the hostel ground. Kitchen was modified as A1 kitchen. Power cuts have never been a problem for our students since 83 kV generator has been installed exclusively for the hostel. Separate washing area is provided near each block. Adequate lines are provided in all the blocks for hanging clothes.

Available Features

  • R.O System of mineral water is provided. 

  • Hot water has been arranged for bathing during winter season. 

  • A computer exclusively for hostel use has been purchased. 

  • Introduction of 21 coin phone booth totally in all the blocks. Provision of a park in hostel campus is also on the way. 

Mess hall

  • The hostel has a well equipped kitchen. The sophisticated dough kneader and chapatti sheeter are worth to be mentioned.

  • “A” and “B” blocks and the dining hall are linked through connectivity links. There are four well furnished dining halls, which can easily accommodate 750 students at one time. These halls have been designed for study and to be used for meetings as well. The windows of these halls are fitted with stainless steel mosquito netting. For all the dining halls water purifiers, which include coolers and two other systems that have the option of purified ordinary water, cool water and hot water are provided.

  • Lift facility is available to carry cooked food to each dining hall and covered stainless steel pushcart is put in use to transport food to PG hostel dining hall. Giant sized hot packs are provided to keep the food items warm. The menu is exclusively student oriented. The mess expenses are on a dividing system.

Record Maintenance

  • A system of recording the entry and exit of students and staff members is set up and being followed.

  • Receiving and delivering of letters, parcels and money meant for students are recorded.

  • The students are allowed for an outing with their parents on second Sunday of every month.

  • There are at present five securities to guard the hostel day and night.

Rules

Strict adherence to the rules specified below is compulsory on the part of every resident student. Disobedience of the rules or any misconduct will result in removal from the Hostel.

  • The duties and responsibilities, if any, given to them are to be executed in good faith and sincerity.

  • Any grievance or complaint should be brought to the notice of Warden or Deputy Warden through House Keepers immediately.

  • The residents are not permitted to have any direct contact with the hostel servants.

  • Students are not permitted to wear costly materials, jewels, etc. and they should not have large amount of cash with them. It is the responsibility of the individuals to keep their articles safely. Students should open SB A/c with UCO Bank Extn. Counter within our College Premises.

  • The students are not permitted to use tape recorders, transistors, heaters, fans, iron boxes, cell phones etc.,

  • Inmates are not permitted to entertain day-scholars, friends and others inside the rooms. Inmates must not invite guests for food in the hostel mess.

  • Newspapers, magazines, play materials and other articles should not be taken out of the common reading room.

  • Residents feeling sick should immediately report the matter to the Warden through the House Keepers.

  • Members shall not enter the kitchen. They shall sit in the dining hall in the order in which they enter it. They shall treat the cooks and servants with kindness and consideration.

  • No member shall disfigure the walls and doors or cause any damage to any hostel property. Any such damage shall be reported to the Warden at once and it shall be paid for at such rates as shall be fixed by the authorities.

  • No notice shall be put or circulated in the hostel premises without the permission of the Warden.

  • If rooms are found locked or empty with lights on, all the inmates of the rooms will be held jointly responsible and a fine of Rs.5/- per day will be charged.

  • Outsiders should not be invited to any function in the Hostel.

  • Members shall not remove or exchange furniture allotted to them.

  • Violent discussion and disputes should strictly be avoided. No member shall ever participate in any political, communal or anti-social activities. They shall not organize, convene or hold meeting in or outside the hostel premises without previous permission of the Warden.

  • Arrangements are made for the dispatch of letters and the incoming message will be given through the Warden. Cloth washing can be done through Dhobi arranged for this purpose.

  • Parents and recognized guardians / Local guardians with identity card alone can meet the student concerned at the visitors lounge in case of emergency, only with prior permission of the warden.

  • Hostelites will be permitted to avail themselves of the holidays at home as listed In the College Calendar.

  • During any holidays the parents or local guardians should come and take the Students home. Under any unavoidable circumstances, the parents are asked to write the permission letter directly to the Warden/ Deputy Warden, to send their daughter home alone.

Language Lab

  • With the objective of polishing and perfecting heterogeneous language skills of the students, a Language Lab was established through financial aid from UGC.

  • This lab enhances the language use of the students with varied exercises and activities based on real context in a sophisticated ambience.

  • The infrastructure of the Lab is extended to all students on a triangular basis with the Internet and the Library. 

  • During the pandemic the activities of the Labs (Lang.Lab & AOEL) were incorporated in the Part II English Classes in online mode.

  • The Lab resumed with the offline activities on the rotational basis with the Library

            (LL  to Library and Library to LL).

  • The Lab Instructors train the students in their language skills allied with employability skills like Debates, Group Discussion, Presentations, Role Play, Mock interviews etc.

  • The Lab Co-ordinators coordinate with the other instructors in formulating the week activities.

Internet Lab

  • The internet lab is accessed by all the students from all the departments on triangular basis with a fixed schedule of one hour per week during the college hours. The students are also permitted to access the Net lab facility after college hours. 

  • All the labs are completely interlinked with internet connectivity and supported by 45 Mbps leased line internet facility. The campus is also fully enabled with Wi-Fi connectivity. All the systems are secured with firewall and anti-virus software.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

Introduction

     The National Service Scheme (NSS) was officially started on 24th September 1969, to establish a meaningful linkage between the campus and the community. Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, had recognised that the country could not progress in a desired direction until the student youth were motivated to work for the upliftment of the villages/community. For Gandhiji, the villages, where majority of the population living, represent the country. Therefore for the national reconstruction and national resurgence it was deemed fit that the students and teachers should be properly sensitised and utilised for strengthening the Indian society as a whole with particular emphasis on rural community. Therefore, student youth, teachers and the community are considered as the three basic components of the National Service Scheme.
     The National Service Scheme of Cauvery College for Women has its own landmark in the successful history of the College. It has the pride and privilege to be one among the few colleges which holds 5 units, with 500 Volunteers and guided by 5 efficient programme officers. The Moto of N.S.S. “Not Me But You” is inculcated in the young minds of the volunteers.
     N.S.S molds the personality of the volunteers and brings out their potentials, hidden talents and nobles them to march forward to reach great heights of global achievements through community services. It also focuses on the current social problems and sensitizes the people to compact the evils prevailing in the society. The NSS activities of our college comprises of both regular activities and special camping activities. Our NSS programme officers and volunteers were recognized for the services and were awarded at state level and university level.

     The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

     The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.

NCC

INCEPTION AND SIGNIFICANCE OF NCC

      National Cadet Corps (NCC) came into existence on 15th July 1948 under the NCC Act XXXI of 1948, under the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The Girls Division was introduced in 1949. To start with, only Army NCC units were there. Air Force and Naval NCC units followed soon in 1950 and 1952 respectively. The NCC Headquarters is located in New Delhi. Control and co-ordination are exercised through 17 State Directorates. NCC Officer’s Training Academies are located at Kamptee for Male Officers and Gwalior for Women Officers.

    Our college has successfully initiated the National Cadet Corps under 4(TN) Girls BN of Trichy group on 15th August 2005, which comprises 60 cadets considering that Cauvery College for Women had planned to make their cadets to be fit both mentally and physically. We develop our fitness by conducting parades in our college as per schedule. Our NCC Cadets are allowed to participate in various camps (Intra & Interstate). In camps, the monetary aspects are totally provided by the college.

AIM

  • To develop qualities, character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.

  • To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and be always available for the service of the nation.

  • IMA Dehradun. 32 vacancies per course through UPSC and SSB interview.

  • OTA Chennai. 50 vacancies per course for Short Service Commission (Non-Tech). No UPSC exam. Only SSB interview.

  • For OR, Sailors, Airmen: 5 to 10% bonus marks awarded for recruitment.

  • 20% vacancies reserved for Girl Cadets in OTA, Chennai.

RED RIBBON CLUB

      Cauvery College for women is its milestone of development has added a new feather to its cap by inaugurating the Red Ribbon Club in the college on 07.10.2002 to compact the social with &ndash HIV/AIDS. Under the able guidance of madam Principal and RRC program officer. 20 students were enrolled as the volunteers of Red Ribbon Club. Blood Donation Camp, Blood Grouping Camp was conducted on Inaugural Day. 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

The Department of social work extends effective and supportive hands to cater to the needs of the vulnerable sections of the society and for the downtrodden, disadvantaged, differently abled through special programmes and community organization programmes organized by the students.  The community outreach programmes are organized in collaboration with both governmental and non-governmental organizations which are working with the community at the grass root level. The department has tie up with organizations such as DDRO-District Disabled Rehabilitation Office, District Social Welfare Board, Government Adidravidar Hr.Sec.School(Boys),Kattur Khajamalai Ladies Association, SOCSEAD, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Aram Hospital ,Athma mind Centre, Sowmanasya, Vishranthi hospital, Mercy Hospital,  Dr.Chitrambalam Amsavalli Home for the Aged, St.Antony’s Home for the Aged, Tiruchirappalli Multipurpose Social Service Society, Child Line, Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind Women, Trichy Diabetic Centrte, Janet Nursing Home, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital etc, ABC Hospital, Appollo Hospital, Rane Break Lining Ltd, Joseph Eye Hospital, SRM Hospital, DCS Software Solutions, etc.  Programmes are organized in the slums and communities to create awareness on health and hygiene, communicable and non-communicable diseases, social issues concerned with alcoholism, drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, electronic media  addiction, gender sensitization, women empowerment, women rights, domestic violence, mental health, legal awareness, demonstration on nutrition, special trips organized for children and older persons to temples and tourist spots etc.

ROTARACT CLUB

Rotary International is a service-oriented organization. As part of their service, they sponsor Rotaract Clubs for College Students and youth from the age of 18 to 30 years.

  • Rotaract Club of Cauvery College has been involved in many service-oriented activities from its inception.
  • Rotaract Club of Cauvery College comes under the Rotary Club of Trichirappalli Mid-town.
  • From the inception the Rotaractors of Cauvery College have involved themselves in many community-based projects like Blood Donation Camps, Eye     Donation Camps, and Personality Development Programs, etc.
  • Rotaractor Bharathi was the District Rotaract Representative for the year 1996-1997.
  • Rotaract Club of Cauvery College has won the Best Club award for the academic year 1996-1997.

      A continual project done by the Rotaract Club is the Rockcity Welfare Association Book Bank Scheme. Under this scheme every year nearly sixty students from the first years are selected and interviewed by the members of the Rockcity Welfare Association. The selected students are provided with a textbook throughout their course of study. Students who benefited from this project are also encouraged with prizes for high scores in the university exams.

       Another continual project by the Rotaract Club is to give Rubella Vaccine to girls of various villages. A village is selected and a Rubella Vaccine awareness camp is conducted. Fifty girls from the village are chosen and they are given Rubella Vaccination shots by eminent doctors.

  • Framing Syllabus for basic Mathematics, English and Moral Science.
  • Our Rotaractors took Classes twice a week for six months.
  • The students of the school were also taught a Thirukkural in each session.
  • Health and Hygiene awareness camp was conducted by the Rotaractors of the Social Work Department.
  • Christmas gifts were given to the students of the School.        
  • Various competitions were conducted and prizes given to the winners.

Leo club of Cauvery College was started in the year 1987 by K.Rengarajan and its Parent club is Lion’s Club of Tiruchirappalli Rockcity. It comes under Lion’s District 324A2. The students of Leo club of Cauvery College are actively engaging themselves invarious Social Service Activities.

LEO–VISION 2020

A youth Development programme organized by Lion’s Club International and Bharathidasan University in the year 2005 – 2006. In this programme Leo president Ms.Deena Priscilla, Leo. Safa Basheer and Leo advisor Ms. N. Pushpa, Staff incharge was selected for this programme. Through this programme they met various personalities including Dr. Jothi Basu,former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Kalaingar Karunanithi,  former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.,  Mr.Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Dr. Kiran Bedi. I.P.S, Mr.Somnath Chatterjee,Speaker Lok Saba, Mr. Dyanithi Maran, Information and Broad Casting Minister, India, ISRO chairman and Dr. Madavan Nayar etc.,and they visited most important places including Parliament, Taj Mahal, Red-Fort, Agra Fort, India Gate, Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) - Bangalore, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation–Chennai, Sabarmathi Ashram – Gujarat, Indian Institute of Management &National Institute of Design – Gujarat etc.,

Finally they met our Former Indian President Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Rashtrabathi Bhavan. The same programme vision 2020 was also organized in the year 2003-2004, in which our college students Ms.Neha Solanki–Former College Union President and Ms.Jayachitra were participated and this was a remarkable achievement of our students.

Water Club

THANNEER CLUB

Under the guidance of  Bharathidasan University, Cauvery College For Women had started the "THANNEER(WATER) Environment Student Club" in 2014, to create awareness about the environment among the people and pupils. Now it is growing in the path of progress.

DEVELOPMENT

It was formed in 2014 with the support of two organizers along with 120 Under Graduate Students. Having the students as the backbone, we started to create awareness to the people about environment through 
i) Cleaning process 
ii) Awareness rally 
iii) Environmental Tour
iv) Garden Visit 
v) Planting the saplings. 
        Among the colleges, affiliated with Bharathidasan University, Cauvery College For Women was chosen as the best for executing the Thanneer Environmental student Club in 2014 – 2015 and the honour was credited to Mrs M. Anu &Miss.R. Keerthana [Assistant Professors of Tamil Department].

HIGHLIGHTS

Chief works done by our club for securing the environment are as follows.
            i)Using Eco-friendly bags instead of plastic bags.
          ii)Conducting street – plays for environmental awareness.

GENDER CHAMPION CLUB

Gender Champions Club strengthen the potential of young girls to advocate for gender equality and monitor progress towards gender justice spread the awareness about Gender sensitization. This club also aim to promote gender equality and to change the mode of interaction at all levels such as home, schools, colleges, universities, workplaces, etc. It also encourages practices and structures in services which ensure protection of women’s rights, policies, and empowerment. To make the young boys and girls gender sensitive and create positive social norms ,the club organises awareness programmes on various gender issues including legislations to influence behaviour change. Popularize phone numbers of such services as police helpline, women helpline, hospitals among students

Legal Literacy Club

Legal literacy Club is formed with an idea to spread knowledge of the legal rights and duties and to give legal suggestions to the poor and for providing Legal awareness on laws related to women and also to protect legally them from the problems prevailing in the society. “TALENT WINS GAMES, BUT TEAMWORK AND INTELLIGENCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP”

To motivate and expose the talents of our students, we conduct competitions among the students of 7 departments (INTER-DEPARTMENTAL) in various fields like Dance, Theatre, Singing, Art, Fashion and Literary events. These competitions are conducted within a span of 20 days and eminent judges from those particular fields are invited from various places to judge these competitions.
The judges, judge the student's performance according to the given criteria and the marks are consolidated and ranked as,7,5,3 &,1 for I, II, III and IV prizes respectively. The Individual Championships are given for,
   

  • ART, LITERARY, MUSIC 
  • DANCE                 
  • THEATRE                 

The team with the highest score is given the OVERALL “WINNER SHIELD” and the second highest score will be awarded the “RUNNERS SHIELD”.
These events are organized by the WINGS Club and conducted with the help of 14 Department’s Cultural In-Charges (Both STAFF and STUDENTS) with the guidance of Overall Coordinators Mr. Guhan Raj and Mrs. A. Sahaya Jenitha who works under the support of the Principal and The Management.

Procedures and policies for maintaining and utilizing physical, academic and support facilities

Facilities for enhanced Teaching-Learning Environment

 115 spacious classrooms, spread across 5 blocks 

  • A Classroom of each department equipped with LCD projector 

  • Technology-enabled learning spaces like Internet Lab, Digital Library, Computer Labs 

  • Science departments supported with well-equipped laboratories 

  • A fully equipped Auditorium with a seating capacity of 3500 persons 

  • Two fully air-conditioned Seminar Halls with a seating capacity of 200 & 400 people, which are equipped with LCD projector. 

  • Language Lab for imparting training in communicative English

     To enhance the teaching and learning environment all the facilities are well maintained for utilization. As every programme such as seminars and workshops are enhanced with LCD projectors and internet facilities, the college allocates adequate funds for the purchase and maintenance of equipment’s based on the budgets framed as per the requirements of the departments.

Enhanced Learning Resource Centre infrastructure -The students learning process is supported by  

  • A large collection of books, e-books, journals, e-journals magazines which are subscribed annually. 

  • Online resources from DELNET, INFLIBNET and ACM Digital Library, Language Lab supported with the latest version of Software and Video – Conferencing facility, E-contents generated by faculty members are updated for utilization. 

  • Technology-enabled learning spaces like Internet Lab, Digital Library, Computer Labs and all the science departments with well-equipped laboratories are well maintained not only for carrying out curriculum-oriented lab practical classes but also to carry out research activities and project work.

Optimal usage of Common facilities

          The other common facilities like NCC Room, vehicle parking with ramp facility, visitors lounge, bank, photocopier, Language Lab, canteen, indoor stadium, RO water system, telephone, restroom, health centre, Wi-Fi connectivity, public addressing system, CCTV Camera, intercom facility and ample parking space are supervised periodically to ensure optimal usage. 

Enhanced Hostel facilities

  • The College hostel within the campus with 245 rooms in 2 UG and 1 PG blocks and modern amenities for more than 1300 students is maintained properly for student usage. 

  • Mechanized cooking done with the support of modernized kitchen amenities such as dough kneader, a chappathi sheeter and 3 batter grinders and an Allar grinder are excellently maintained to ensure proper usage and satisfy the students need. 

  • Fire extinguisher, generators, uninterrupted power supplies enrich the environment.

Other Infrastructural Amenities

  • Other added infrastructural amenities such as sanitary napkin disposer, high mast light, are used appropriately to fulfil the student’s needs. 

  • Water tanker lorry, College bus facility are well maintained for student’s usage. 

  • A spacious playground, Shuttle Badminton court, Basket Ball court, Kho-Kho and Kabbadi court; Indoor stadium for playing games like Table Tennis, Shuttle and Tennis are well maintained and used under the supervision of Physical Directress.
